‘Drunk History’ reprises show on Comedy Central

Few things are more amusing than an inebriated raconteur whose eagerness overpowers articulation.

That’s what makes Comedy Central’s Drunk History so amusing. Derek Waters’ show, which started as a star-studded hit web series on FunnyOrDie.com, premiered earlier this month with a sloshed re-telling of Elvis Presley’s little-known encounter with President Nixon. The show fades in and out of re-enactments of the narrator’s dialogue and shots of the liquored-up storyteller battling burps, slurred speech and surges of wooziness.

The narrators really are intoxicated (a medic’s deployed with an oxygen tank at all the shoots), but all the stories are 100 percent true snippets plucked from the lesser-read pages of history, Waters says.

“We don’t want to put straight-up lies in people’s heads,” co-creator and director Jeremy Konner tells USA Today, but “(we) may take a few liberties with dialogue.”
